ITS has a new look on the web
Based on user feedback, ITS has redesigned and moved its support web site, upgrading and streamlining the content utilizing emerging web 2.0 technologies. This upgrade, which replaces computing.colgate.edu, should provide many benefits to the Colgate community, some of which we describe in this article.
ITS formal web content has moved to the public website (http://www.colgate.edu/its). This more static information includes: staff information; ITS policies & procedures; support hours; and standard web links for students, staff, and faculty.
For more dynamic, technical information the new ITS web structure utilizes Web 2.0 platform tools, including:
- collaborative wiki (http://wiki.colgate.edu) for technical documentation, "how-to" documents, and other reference material
- blog for targeted FAQ’s (frequently asked questions with answers) and alerts (http://blogit.colgate.edu)
- del.icio.us bookmarks (http://delicious.com/cusupport) for Internet help links generated by ITS staff
- RSS feeds (http://blogit.colgate.edu/blogs/its/main/pages/its-rss.html) for alerts and other important user information, such as system outages (planned and unexpected), configuration changes, and important technical notices (RSS feeds allow you to subscribe to selected information streams, available in your browser)
You shouldn't need to know much about these tools, since we hope finding what you are looking for will be much easier with our new “Search ITS” feature. This Google-based feature searches all of the ITS Colgate support sites to find Colgate-specific answers to your questions. Check for the “Search ITS” logo on our new web sites.
Another new feature of the redesign is a new ITS tab on the Colgate portal (http://cu.colgate.edu) which features links to:
- single sign-on to the ITS help/request system
- targeted FAQ’s that contain pertinent and timely technical information
- current ITS alerts
- tips and tricks from ITS staff.
We want to hear from the Colgate family. Your feedback helped us to provide self help pages and allows us to concentrate our efforts in areas that matter to you. We encourage you to send us feedback on the new web structure using the available feedback forms (one is located on the Colgate portal ITS tab).
